Concessions for blind people

What other concessions are available?

People who are registered as blind or partially sighted are eligible for a number of travel concessions.

In Greater Manchester, people who are registered blind are entitled to free travel on buses, trains and Metrolink throughout Greater Manchester. People who are registered as partially sighted can apply for a concessionary pass, which gives the person a reduced fare on buses, trains and Metrolink. These are available from your local Social Services. Please note: concessions for bus and tram travel vary from area to area, please contact your local Social Services for specific information and guidance.

Travel vouchers are provided by Social Services and can be used to pay taxi fares, or to travel on Ring and Ride and other easy access bus services. Travel vouchers can be obtained in place of a free bus pass rather than in addition to the bus pass.

The disabled person's car badge is available from Social Services for people who are registered blind or partially sighted. The badge makes is easier to park in busy places like town centres and close to building entrances.

For cheaper rail travel, people who are registered blind or partially sighted also qualify for a Disabled Person's Rail Card. There is a small charge for the card, which is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
